An Ex-Rowland Elementary School Teacher Gets 5 Years in Prison for the Inappropriate Touching of 5 Students

An ex-Rowland Elementary school teacher was sentenced in 2018 to five years in state prison for inappropriately touching five students on campus. Jose Martinez, 54, was also required to register as a sex offender.

Law enforcement was initially alerted to the allegations, which were reported under the system in place for reporting suspicious or questionable behavior. The district fired Martinez who will never be able to return to any position in the district or in any capacity working with or near children.

Although Martinez’s initial case is over, he faces new allegations for the sexual abuse of additional minors. On May 2, 2020, new and additional charges were filed against Martinez for his sexual abuse of minors. He faces pending charges of lewd acts with two other minors. And the civil case against Rowland Unified School District is still ongoing

Justice for Victims of Jose Martinez

Placing your child in the care of a school carries with it a burden of care and responsibility. If you suspect that your child was sexually abused or molested by Jose Martinez while at a Rowland Unified School District school, you should take immediate action. You have a right to seek compensation.

We are often led to believe that the criminal process will achieve justice in child sexual assault or abuse cases. However, criminal proceedings are only designed to punish the perpetrator of abuse. The criminal process has no bearing on schools or the organizations that knew or should have known they had hired a dangerous employee, but yet failed to properly prevent the employee from harming the children under their care.

The legal team at The Carrillo Law Firm has handled many child sexual abuse cases, especially against negligent school districts. The legal team at the Carrillo Law Firm already represents one of the victims of abuse by Jose Martinez. The Carrillo Law Firm is currently accepting and investigating cases on behalf of any individuals who may have been victims of Martinez while attending Rowland Elementary School or Rorimer Elementary school.
