Los Angeles Police Department Investigating Fatal Shooting on Wilcox Avenue in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA (June 27, 2026) – A man has tragically died in a Hollywood shooting along the 1700 block of Wilcox Avenue, not far from Hollywood Boulevard.
Los Angeles Police Department officials are saying that the incident took place around 4:30 AM on Saturday. Los Angeles Police Department officers were called to the scene after getting reports of a shooting.
The incident left a 35-year-old man critically injured. Sadly, that person was later pronounced dead.
It remains unclear what led up to the shooting. No suspects have been identified at this time. A full investigation by the LAPD remains ongoing.
Liability for Hollywood Shootings
Depending on the specific facts of any case, there could be numerous sources of liability after any person is shot in Los Angeles. This could include the police if they used excessive force. According to 42 U.S. Code § 1983, every person who, under the color of law, deprives someone of their rights afforded under the Constitution, shall be liable to the injured party in an action at law. What follows are a few other potentially responsible parties.
- Assailant: An individual assailant could be held responsible for a shooting through both a criminal action and a civil claim.
- Property Owner: A property owner may be responsible if the person is injured in a shooting on the premises. Property owners have an obligation to protect against reasonably forseeable sources of harm, including criminal activity.
- Gun Owner: The owner of a firearm could also potentially bear some responsibility if they negligently allowed another person access to that firearm.
When assessing liability for any shooting, foreseeability matters a great deal. For example, it matters if there have been similar incidents in a specific location. If there were a number of shootings in a specific business or other location, this makes additional shootings much more foreseeable. The level of security that any property owner will need to employ depends in part on whether or not there is a history of violence at a given location.
Steps to Take After Hollywood Shootings
Gun violence remains a major issue across Los Angeles and the United States. According to the Pew Research Center, “Around 44,000 people died of gun-related injuries in the United States in 2024, according to the latest available statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).” Several steps should be taken after any shooting in Hollywood.
- The police report created after the accident should be sought.
- All medical records related to the shooting should be reviewed.
- The history of criminal activity at the location of the shooting should be studied.
- Victims or their surviving family members should consider their options with an experienced attorney.
Losing a loved one to gun violence can be absolutely devastating. The vast majority of these incidents are completely preventable. It is important that the victims of gun violence understand that they do have legal options. In particular, the family members of any person who died in a shooting may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
