SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (October 23, 2024) – A former Mount Carmel High School teacher identified as Stacy Walker has pleaded guilty to sex crimes with a minor student.

An article from 2015 listed Stacy Walker as a drama and theater tech teacher.
Liability For San Diego Teacher Sexual Abuse
Sexual abuse involving school teachers remains all too common. According to one study in Sage Journals, “Educator sexual misconduct is a serious problem in the United States (U.S.), with a 2004 Department of Education report estimating that 9.6% of K-12 students in the U.S. had experienced either verbal, visual, or physical educator misconduct at some point during their school career.” Schools should take a number of measures in order to protect students from sexual abuse.
- Schools should ensure all teachers and school employees undergo a thorough background check.
- Schools should develop and enforce a clear code of conduct with respect to appropriate behavior between students and teachers.
- Schools should understand the factors that contribute to sexual victimization and predation.
All schools have a legal obligation to protect the students in their care from foreseeable sources of harm. This includes sexual abuse at the hands of school teachers. To that end, school employees must adequately supervise all of the students in their care and enforce all rules and regulations necessary for their protection. If school officials knew or should have known that a teacher posed a risk to students and failed to act, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that certain steps are taken after any instance of sexual abuse involving a teacher.
- A police report should be created.
- Medical records should be preserved.
- An experienced sexual abuse attorney should be contacted.
Sexual abuse is one of the most harmful experiences that most students and people can go through. Minors who are sexually abused are more prone to having a variety of negative health outcomes. This includes PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Sadly, though, schools will often do everything in their power to deny liability after any student is abused. Any person who is sexually abused by a school teacher may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
