LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (January 29, 2026) – A certified nursing assistant identified as Kayode Ogunba has been arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting two patients at a Goleta home.

Los Angeles County officials are saying that the incident began on November 3, 2025. Authorities received reports that a certified nursing assistant identified as Kayode Ogunba allegedly abused patients.

He was arrested on January 20, 2026, in the Los Angeles area. He has since been booked on a Santa Barbara County arrest warrant.

Kayode Ogunba was transported to the Santa Barbara County Main Jail. Detectives are asking anyone who may have additional information or was victimized to come forward.

The suspect has worked in other states, including Texas and Washington, over the past several years. A full investigation into all of the allegations remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Los Angeles Home Care Sexual Abuse

Employers in California have a legal obligation to protect consumers from reasonably foreseeable sources of harm. This includes protecting elderly patients and other vulnerable people from sexual abuse and other criminal activity. To that end, all employees who work as nurses should undergo rigorous background checks and adequate supervision. A nursing home company could be liable if a patient is sexually abused through a negligent hiring or retention claim. There are several elements that must be demonstrated in such a claim.

  • The defendant employed the individual that caused harm to the plaintiff.
  • The employee that caused the harm was unfit or posed a foreseeable risk of harm in their job capacity.
  • The employer knew or should have known that their employee posed a risk of harm to others.
  • The employer failed to use reasonable care when selecting or screening the employee.
  • The employee’s unfit nature was the proximate cause of the plaintiff’s injury.

Sexual abuse is often highly preventable in a home healthcare setting. These incidents may involve situations where workers are not being properly supervised. It is also true to say that any person arrested for sexual abuse likely had multiple red flags or complaints against them. It is important to carefully examine any such complaints and other supporting material that showed the perpetrator posed a risk of harm.

Steps to Take After Los Angeles Home Care Sexual Abuse

Abuse in a healthcare setting is much more common than many people realize. According to Nursing Research and Practice, “WHO concludes that surveys have shown that between 4 and 6% of older people experience some form of abuse in their homes and that mistreatment in institutions may be more extensive than generally believed.” Several actions should be taken after any instance of sexual abuse involving healthcare professionals.

  • Medical Treatment: Victims should seek medical treatment as soon as possible. They should also collect any medical records associated with that treatment.
  • Police: Victims should report the abuse to the police early on so that they can begin an investigation into what happened.
  • Investigation: An investigation should be conducted into the company that employed the perpetrator.
  • Legal Review: Any person impacted by home healthcare sexual abuse should contact an experienced sexual abuse attorney. An attorney can take steps to preserve evidence and protect your rights.

Sexual abuse is one of the most harmful and destructive things that most people will ever go through in their lives. Victims routinely suffer physical injuries and lasting psychological trauma. Unfortunately, medical providers will virtually never accept responsibility if one of their workers abuses a patient. This is why it’s so important these incidents are thoroughly investigated by an outside party. Any person that is sexually abused by a nurse is able to seek some measure of accountability and justice through a civil action.
