ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA (December 29, 2025) – An Orange County gymnastics coach identified as Jacob Demmin was arrested on suspicion of grooming and engaging in a sexual relationship with a minor girl.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday following an investigation. Jacob Demmin was still employed by Ultimate Ninjas Gym in Anaheim Hills while he was being arrested, according to authorities.

The alleged victim in this case said that she was groomed by the defendant while he was coaching at Firestorm Free Running and Acrobatics Gym in Santa Ana and Westminster.

A full investigation into the actions of Jacob Demmin remains ongoing.

Liability for Orange County Child Sexual Abuse

Schools have a legal obligation to protect students from reasonably foreseeable sources of harm. This includes protecting students from sexual abuse at the hands of teachers and coaches. Consider, for example, Taylor v. Oakland Scavenger Co., 17 Cal. 2d 594 [110 P.2d 1044], “It is the duty of the school authorities to supervise at all times the conduct of the children on the school grounds and to enforce those rules and regulations necessary to their protection.” Schools and businesses that care for children should take several actions to prevent sexual abuse.

  • Hiring and Screening: Schools should run criminal background checks on all potential applicants.
  • Sexual Misconduct Policies: Schools should develop written policies that define and prohibit inappropriate behavior.
  • Mandatory Training: Teachers and other faculty should receive ample training on being able to identify grooming and other concerning behaviors that precede sexual abuse.

When schools have actual or constructive notice that a teacher poses a risk of harm to students, they must act. Failing to act to protect students from harm could form the basis of a negligence claim. By the time any teacher is arrested for sexual abuse, there are often dozens of red flags that were missed. In many instances, teachers and other faculty fail to report concerning behavior because they were concerned they would get in trouble.

Steps to Take After Orange County Sexual Abuse

Sexual misconduct involving coaches remains a common occurrence across California and the United States. According to one scientific study in Sage Journals, “When considering all adolescents who experienced sexual abuse in their lifetime (10.2%), it appears that 5.3% of them were victims of sexual abuse by a coach. Participants also reported experiencing sexual harassment from a coach (0.4%) and consensual sexual contacts (1.2%) with a coach in the 12 months preceeding the study.” Victims of sexual abuse should take several measures to protect their legal rights.

  • The misconduct should be reported to the police as early as possible.
  • All communication between the defendant and the victim should be preserved.
  • School records related to the perpetrator should be gathered.
  • Victims should seek the guidance of an experienced sexual abuse attorney.

Sexual abuse involving teachers and school officials is often highly preventable. Unfortunately, school officials will virtually never accept responsibility if a student in their care is sexually abused. It is important that victims understand that they do have legal rights. They are able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim. There are no up-front costs associated with hiring a sexual abuse attorney.
