LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (June 28, 2024) – A 25-year-old identified as Kenneth Ordonez has been charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl who attended a Koreatown middle school in LA.

Los Angeles County officials are saying that the earliest assaults took place in February 2023. The LAPD claims that Kenneth Ordonez was posing as a teenager when he targeted multiple young girls who attended a middle school in Koreatown.

Three victims of sexual assault have been identified so far. The age range of the victims is between 11 and 16. LAPD officials believe that most of the sexual assaults occurred in vehicles.

Kenneth Ordonez is described as a 5-foot-3 Hispanic male who weighs approximately 173 lbs. Detectives believe that there may be additional victims.

Liability For Los Angeles County Child Sexual Abuse

Sexual abuse within schools is unfortunately very common. According to neaToday, “there were 14,938 incidents of sexual violence in K–12 schools in 2017 – 2018 compared with 9,649 in 2015 – 2016, representing a 55 percent increase. These include incidents of rape or attempted rape and sexual assault.” Schools should take a number of measures in order to prevent students from being sexually abused.

  • Schools can implement controlled access and exit points to limit the number of people who are allowed to enter the school.
  • Schools should install and maintain surveillance cameras.
  • Schools should perform background checks on all third-party individuals who interact with students.

All schools have a legal obligation to protect students from reasonably foreseeable sources of harm. This includes assaults perpetrated by third parties. Consider, for example, Leger v. Stockton Unified School Dist. (1988) 202 Cal. App. 3d 1448. A California Court of Appeal considered a case where a student was assaulted by a non-student in a school restroom. Attorneys for the student argued that the school failed to protect the minor plaintiff from the attack. This was true even though they knew or should have known that the restroom was unsafe and attacks were likely to occur. It is important that certain steps are taken after sexual abuse in a school setting.

  • A police report of the incident should be created.
  • Medical records related to the assault should be preserved.
  • Eyewitnesses should be interviewed.
  • An experienced school sexual abuse attorney should be contacted.

Sexual abuse is one of the most traumatic and destructive events that children can go through. Victims are often left with long-term psychological injuries and are more likely to suffer from chronic health conditions. Sadly, though, schools will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility if a child in their care is sexually abused. This is why it is so important to seek the guidance of an experienced attorney. A child sexual abuse attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
