Elio Carrion v. San Bernardino County – $1,500,000.00

In this case, the Carrillo Law Firm was successful in obtaining a settlement on behalf of Elio Carrion, an unarmed Air Force officer who was shot by a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy which was caught on tape. On January 29, 2006, Carrion was riding as a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in a high-speed pursuit that ended in Chino, CA. When Mr. Carrion got out of the car, he was ordered to sit on the curb and he complied. Then former County Sheriff Deputy William Webb ordered Mr. Carrion to “get up” and when Mr. Carrion rose as requested, he was shot three times point blank.

For his actions, Webb was charged with attempted voluntary manslaughter. Webb was the first ever officer charged in an on-duty shooting in San Bernardino County. Unfortunately Webb was later acquitted of his criminal charges after a jury trial.

However, the Carrillo Law Firm secured a $1.5 million settlement with the County of San Bernardino. This police shooting luckily was caught on video by a bystander. Without the video, Mr. Carrion likely would have been charged with a crime by this deputy and would have never received the justice he deserved. The Carrillo Law Firm has handled many similar police shooting cases and has experience in litigating these matters against the cities and police departments.
