Los Angeles Unified School System Faces Yet Another Sexual Abuse Lawsuit

Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is facing yet another sexual abuse lawsuit. The latest civil lawsuit is filed against the school system on behalf of a man who is now 24-years-old, but a decade ago went to Vista Middle School in Van Nuys. The lawsuit focuses on the conducts of William Webb, who was the assistant principal at the time when the victim attended the school. The lawsuit claims that Webb harassed, abused and molested the victim between 2004 and 2008 and that the district failed to supervise him.

Webb was arrested Tuesday on charges of lewd acts, oral copulation and sodomy on a minor. Webb was said to be a well-liked principal when he worked at Vista. However, the lawsuit alleges that the victim suffered through several years of trauma, touching, sexual molestation and abuse, suggests otherwise.

Attorneys Michael Carrillo, and his father, Luis Carrillo, are handling this claim. They said the former student and plaintiff, who is only known as “John R. C. Doe,” had been suffering in silence. He finally felt compelled to tell his story after being contacted by law enforcement.

The Webb case comes on the heels of $88 million in settlements being paid to 47 plaintiffs in another LAUSD case. The Carrillo firm filed the lawsuit in December but decided not to publicize the case until after the arrest as not to jeopardize the then-ongoing investigation.
